You may find that it necessary to purchase a pair or two of different types and use them  before you can figure out exactly what you like.  You may want to have several pairs for everyday work, show, horse training, and even a different type of spur for each horse that you ride.  Keep in mind that the most  heel bands can be bent slightly inward or outward to make the inside width narrower or wider to fit your size of boot. You may need farrier or blacksmith tools to adjust the heel bands.  The heel depth and width in ladies and youth spurs is smaller than men's spurs.

3.  Buying spurs for home decorations is easy.  Simply buy what you like and what fits into your decorating budget.  Collectable ones are great for decorating because they also increase in value makeing them a great investment.   For those on a limited budget, inexpensive, showy, silver mounted western spurs are availabe at most online auctions and tack stores.
